MISSION STATEMENT
“The pen is mightier than the sword.”

"The pen is mightier than the sword, if you shoot that pen out of a gun."
-Stephen Colbert, 2009
The "A Letter A Week" Project is somewhat of a personal challenge. As the site suggests, I am planning on writing one letter per week for as long as I can come up with ideas. It might last a few weeks, a few months, or perhaps even a few years.
But I don’t plan on going this alone. In addition to my own weekly letter, I will try to find a “Featured Author of the Week” to write a letter as well. Hopefully this will help keep site content fresh.
Over the course of time, I hope that our letters will cover a wide variety of topics and styles. In general, I hope to create a positive environment where we raise awareness toward good causes. I would like our letters to include motivational stories, insightful observations and calls to action.
In addition to posting our letters, we will also monitor their effects. After the letter is sent, we will monitor the three “R’s”:
RESPONSE – does the person who received the letter send a response?
RESULTS – did the letter have any impact?
REACTION – did the letter get any reaction from our website readers?
As an exercise, writing itself can be very educational, motivational and personally cathartic. Letter-writing can have positive results and I hope this project helps motivate some people to pick up the pen and write their own letter each week.
If you would like to be a part of our project by becoming a letter-writer, please read our authorship policy and send us an e-mail at info@aletteraweek.com.
